drop shadow removal from text

Built new box(Asus M5A99X EVO,GTX 550ti 1G graphic card), Mate 13-64 wouldn't load fully,always hung when it came to graphics.
Took a simple Asus card from another box and swapped with 550 card, and Mate loaded normally however with drop shadows on all text. How do I get clear type without drop shadowing in Mate? Drivers have been installed and have set up cloned output, the CRT TV has clear picture with no drop shadows,while the primary lcd has the shadows. Output resolution is 1024 X 768 which is my preferred output and required for CRT adapter.

This motherboard is a UEFI board, not using the UEFI boot, so I can run Mate solo. Linux won't load if MS is loaded and I use another box for MS anyway. I wondered if that could have anything to do with the shadowing. REK
