User right messed up?

Since a month ago or so none of the followng application launch from the menu:
1) mint update manager
2) unetbootin
3) synaptic package manager
4) settings

They run only via the sudo command, something that before was not necessary. I have googled for these problems but I have not found an answer. Any help appreciated.
