Problems with an added repository

Postby aki90 on Sun Dec 09, 2012 7:44 am

Hi guys. Let's start with saying that i'm TOTALLY noob, so please be patient with me :)

I've just installed the Linux Mint 14 Mate, 64bit version. I wasn't really happy with the graphics, so I've tried ti install a new theme, but it happened that I've followed this post (http://linuxmint-art.org/content/show.p ... ent=134123), and had to stop rightaway after "adding" the repository.

This was the message I got after the apt-get update:
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/nikount/orta-d ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/nikount/orta-d ... 4/Packages 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/nikount/orta-d ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

So, i guess that this repository which I was trying to add wasn't actually working at its top... So here's my question: How do I remove it?
I've tried to follow another post, which told me to use some kind of command "sudo ppa-purge ppa:smth/smth-else", and I've kinda installed it but it didn't happen to work.

(So, if I can even try a second question- How do I change the color of the bottom panel and menu without messing everything up?)

Hope someone can help me before i rainbows everything in this pc :)
Thank you!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

As you can see if you try the URL in your browser, and then go up a few directories, this PPA only supports older Ubuntu releases than the one on which your Linux Mint release is based: http://ppa.launchpad.net/nikount/orta-d ... ntu/dists/

You don't need ppa-purge, because you haven't been able to install anything from this repository. So just open Software Sources, and on the Other Software tab remove all entries for this PPA. Also on the Authentication tab remove its repository key.

Thank you, it worked.
I had no idea that i could actually open that kind of links... I'm not so confident with the concept of "repository", i thought it was just some kind of address to storages.
