Icons on Desktop

After working with Ubuntu for a number of months, I've decided to try Linux Mint 2.2. It's up and running fine but I am unable to copy various icons from the Bianca menu and from my documents file onto the desktop. In Ubuntu and Windoze, I just clicked and dragged onto the desktop and confirmed that I wanted a 'shortcut' (or whatever Linux calls it) here.

This action doesn't seem to work in Bianca. I'm sure that I'm just missing or confusing a step... but what is it?

Your advice, suggestions, assistance will be appreciated.

This may not be the best way but it will get you what you want.

right click on your panel and click add to panel

Scroll down to Utilities and select menu bar.

This menu bar will work the same as ubuntu's.

Keep the one you like better and remove the other.

It takes a little getting used to but the Mint Menu works really well and now is the only one I use.

As far as dragging and dropping docs to the desk top i have no issues.

I have a docs folder on my desktop.

To get a docs folder on the desktop choose Mint Config.desktop, Mint Desktop and tick the documents option.
