Mint 15 unstable for me

Hi I have installed the Mint 15 ISO with cinnamon 1.8 on my system and the past two nights having left the computer on I have came back to the desktop manager unresponsive and wont open any documents such as PDF. Also clicking on Thunderbird or Firefox does nothing but Nemo will open a folder location albeit very slowly. If you persist on opening files eventually the mouse begins to lag and then the system locks up (cant even CTRL+ALT+F1) so I have to power down the system to restore it.

Never had this in Mint 14 with Cinnamon 1.6. Any ideas what may be causing this?

System is Mint 15 64bit on Intel i5 with 8gm ram.

I also have a stability issue with Mint 15. I have my machine starting up at a certain time every morning, but not I don't always use it right away, and if I leave it sitting at the login screen for too long, maybe a half hour or so, then I log in, the system is unstable and I get random crashes and this instability can last the entire duration, regardless of how long it is. Generally I reboot when I get sick of the crashes, or the system locks up.

However, if I log in right away on boot, I have no stability issues, browser, compilers, all work fine, for hours on end. Even when the screen is locked, and left for hours, still no problems. This is regardless of kernel used, whether a stock Mint kernel or even something from the Ubuntu mainline PPA.

I have been having issues the same version of Mint as well. I am running a sony vaio core i7, 8GB RAM, SSD, nvidia. I started having problems where it would just lock up. Then when I booted or rebooted, I would get a screen flicker and it would say "the greeter application has crashed", sometimes I would be able to login. I was disappointed because I like the features, but I can't stand the crashing.
