Mysql deactivated in XAMPP (Olivia Cinnamon 64 bit)

Postby rejuvenator on Fri Jul 12, 2013 12:26 pm

I've been searching for a solution to this everywhere and none seems to work (most concern a different version of XAMPP or a different system/distro).
I've installed XAMPP, which I downloaded from the official site, but mysql won't start. When I type
Code: Select all
/opt/lampp/lampp start
everything seems to be fine:
Code: Select all
Starting XAMPP for Linux 1.8.2-0...
XAMPP: Starting Apache...ok.
XAMPP: Starting MySQL...ok.
XAMPP: Starting ProFTPD...ok.

but then when I click "status" in http://localhost/xampp/index.php, it shows "deactivated" for mysql and, needless to say, mysql and phpmyadmin don't work.
The error I get when I try to open phpmyadmin is #2002 - no such file or directory.
I remember I used to have a fully-working installation, but I don't remember if it was on this system configuration (I'm now on Cinnamon Linux Mint 15 64-bit, previously I used Linux Mint 14 KDE)
I hope someone can help me.
