eliminate mintmenu

Is there a way to disable mintmenu and go back to the traditional gnome menu system? I cannot stand the disembowled menu system - for one thing it looks way to much like xp. I'll also need to be able to get rid of the corresponding thing on the kde desktop.

Right click mintmenu select remove, right click empty space and add another menu. There are three options, MintMenu, Normal Gnome menu and a compact Gnome menu.

and to get rid of the icons run mintdisk and mintdesktop.
