[solved]cannot update and install softwarre

I cannot update or install any software. when opening terminal and trying to update and installing any software its showing the mesage bllow. this screenshot was taken when trying to open synaptic to fix broken package. i even tried "--fix-missing" and "sudo apt-get install-f". It of no use. HOw can I get rid of this unicorns?

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_raring_multiverse_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Welcome to linux Mint.

Sorry your having problems.
In a terminal type the following commands one at a time and see if you can then install programs.
Code: Select all
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update

You removed the old /var/lib/apt/lists/ file and created a new one with current updates .
for some reason your old one had been corrupted.
