Maya 13 update doesnt support ATI drivers

Postby Baumann on Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:33 pm

Hi,

I am running Maya 13 (3.2.0-23-generic kernel) and I updating the kernel stops my ATI Catalyst drivers, because my GPU is not supported by the newer drivers.
My laptop is 3 years old and I want to continue using it 2 years or so.

How can I update my OS without updating the kernel?

thank you!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

A new OS implies a newer kernel. The drivers are in the kernel, but kernel updates do not always work. I recommend a fresh load of Mint15 or Mint16.
I am happy with kernel 3.11.6 which I got from the Upubuntu web site. Check system settings, device drivers after install.

Hi Computerbob! thank you!
I really would love to install maya16, but there are no GPU driver for everything above ubuntu12.04. And it took me some time to figure to downgrade my laptop to have openGL, which I need for various projects.
the question was, how to install only the security updates, without updating the system.
any suggestions?

Let's not make trouble; ATI is a opensource driver, fglrx (AMD Catalyst) is a proprietary driver; There is no ATI Catalyst.

I am running LM14, Cinnamon 64bit, with kernel 3.5.0-17-generic (default), with AMD Catalyst 13.12 working fine (see my signature)

Try to uninstall fglrx (AMD Catalyst, if you installed it)

Update your kernel (If you need it)

Update your system

Reinstall AMD Catalyst

Never upgrade the kernel with proprietary driver installed; before you uninstall this.
