Well ... there is a reason why it's called a "beta" (= unstable!) driver. Can you please install the stable drivers again? e.g. using "envy"?
I would suggest running envy and uninstalling the nvidia driver
see if you can start x than... if it works than we can troubleshoot the driver problem
