Linux Mint version on desktop

Postby Hendrick on Wed Jun 18, 2014 6:44 am

Being a former Windows-XP user, I perhaps have a bit of a silly question for the forum:
Is it possible to display the Linux version (version number, build number etc) on the desktop?
Thank you for your time.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

In Mint 13 Xfce I click on Menu, then select System > System Information to display information about my computer.

Please tell us first which version of Mint you're running. Now we have to guess it and you get several different answers of which some aren't suitable for your Mint version.

Now i'll do the same thing and make a (wild) guess:
If you're running Mint + Cinnamon, try consider installing a conky. Beside showing system info it also shows a variety of other system info. The easiest way to get a conky is by using Conky Manager. How to install it and configure it can be found here: http://www.teejeetech.in/p/conky-manager.html. Plus, this applications comes with a few conky's.

But otherwise as "eye-candy", showing your system/linux version on the desktop ads no extra value. A conky on the other hand, can be useful to monitor your system.

If you choose to go the Conky route, there is a whole thread devoted to customizing them. They can be as elaborate or simple as you want them to be.
