How is this possible ?

Postby Loup8363 on Sun Jun 29, 2014 1:57 pm

Hi all, I'm puzzled by Linux Mint.
In an attempt to install openelect media distribution, i made a mistake and booted a back-up copy of linux on an ata drive hook-up via a usb port.
The Linux back-up copy is mint 13 off a lenovo ibm machine.
The machine i was trying to install openelect to is a Dell 490 machine.
To my complete shock it booted normally linux 13 (backed-up from p4 mahine) on the Dell machine.
How is this possible ?
Is mint-Linux redoing an install everytime it boot's ...
Please help me understand.

P.s. excuse my english... I'm french canadian

Thank's

Original machine for linux 13 : p4 lenovo dual 3ghz processor, 1g ram, internal video (back-up to ata hd via usb port)

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

How is this possible ?
Because a generic standard Linux kernel is smarter than Windows. It does not "reinstall", it detects hardware and applies/loads what is needed to make it work.
Main desktop: Debian GNU/Linux Wheezy 64bit w/custom 3.14 longterm kernel - MATE 1.8.1
(i5 2400@3.7GHz - 16GB DDR3 - HD6770 w/radeon driver - SSD+RAID1)
True private storage on SpiderOak

This is really fantastic,
Maybe i misted the information on that matter, but i think it is a great feature of Linux and should be advertise.

Thank's again !
