Forum search is crippled.

Is it only me who finds the search function on this forum absolute rubbish? I have never yet come to the forum and managed a successful search first time.

For instance, tonight I needed to search for others who have a problem creating a new user.
Search terms: Add new user
Response: Every search must contain at least one word. Maximum five words. Each word must be 5 or more characters, maximum 14 characters.

No search performed. How can I search for a problem adding new users? All I want to do is add a new user, and the dialogue just sits there with no response. For the life of me, I can't think of any words that describe the problem, that are all five letters or more!

The most efficient and easiest way to search these forums is simply to use your favourite search engine and paste this..

Code: Select all

site:forums.linuxmint.com
.. into the search box along with your search query.

Hope this helps

Wow, WinterTroubles, that was quick. AND IT WORKS! Thanks, I never realised that such a workaround was possible. Many, many thanks.

Although I can't take the credit as it's tip I learnt from the forum rules section of this site... Yeah, yeah.. I'm that guy.. the one that actually reads the rules

You could also set up a custom search engine for the forum site using google custom search engines

Here's one I set up for ubuntu when http://www.googlubuntu.com was down for two or three weeks about 2 or 3 months ago, for exactly the same reason, ie the ubuntu forum search is also a complete waste of time.

You will have to sign in to google in order to set it up, but after that you can bookmark the custom search and use the it without being logged in.
