Hi there...
I use Linux Mint 17, 64bit, Cinnamon.
I would like to use the TTF-Files from "Font-Awesome" and "Entypo" in my local applications, e.g. GIMP, Libre Office, etc.
Normally I use the following way:
1. Download the TTF-File from the Web.
2. Copy the files from my Download-Directory to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/
3. Restart my applications
This way worked for me since years. After installing Mint 17 it doesn't work. Some fonts can still be installed, most don't.
I've also tried the recommended methods from this page: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/29 (without any effect)
I can select the installed fonts in my programs ans applications (they are shown in the Font-Selection) but I get just displayed my text in the system-font.
Is there anybody who can help?

I usually install the package ttf-mscorefonts-installer and then fonts seem to work, put them all in a folder named .fonts in your home directory, then log out and back in and they work for me.
or, from the .fonts folder, right click each font > open with font veiwer and click install
or, from the .fonts folder, right click each font > open with font veiwer and click install

I've also installed ttf-mscorefonts-installer.
The problem is that the fonts seem to be installed correctly.
The font-viewer says that the fonts are installed, in Gimp and Libre Office I can select the fonts. They just aren't used when typing a text.

long shot, maybe permissions on the font folder?

2. Copy the files from my Download-Directory to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/
2a. $ sudo fc-cache -fv
to rebuilt the "cache" (-fv = full(?) and verbose) - so the system knows the font is there, then
3. Restart my applications
