How do I add icons to the desktop (like Firefox)?

Postby twitami on Thu Mar 29, 2007 12:40 am

I am REALLY impressed with Mint so far. I just discovered Linux and Ubuntu a week ago, installed it, tweaked around with it to get GPUs working, and played with it. Then I stumbled onto Mint...WOW is all I can say. So far, only thing I don't like is the Menu setup with the Windows-like Start button thing. I was getting used to Ubuntu! :)

I could learn to like it I am sure, but there has go to be a way to add programs to the desktop. I want to have Firefox, Tellico, and of COURSE the amazing AmaroK on my desktop waiting for me all the time!

Any help?

Nope, I tried dragging. Tried right-clicking too, no option to add to desktop. It is really easy in Ubuntu, so there has to be a way I would think.

Well, not as easy as right-clicking it in the menu and then clicking "add to desktop", but at least there is a way to do it.

Thanks Boo!

it's much simpler to add the Main Menu applet to the panel by right clicking the panel and clicking add to panel

than from the classic gnome main menu select the icon you want with a right click and add to desktop

when you are done organising the desktop, right click on the main menu and remove from desktop

much simpler and no hunting for icons
