How do I add icons to the desktop (like Firefox)?

right click the desktop -->create launcher
type:application
name:firefox
command: /usr/bin/firefox (you can browse for this)
comment:

choose and icon
hit ok/

and bobs your uncle.

it's much simpler to add the Main Menu applet to the panel by right clicking the panel and clicking add to panel

than from the classic gnome main menu select the icon you want with a right click and add to desktop


when you are done organising the desktop, right click on the main menu and remove from desktop


much simpler and no hunting for icons
