Because things keep going wrong lol
The window manager crashed, the Mint menu search wouldn't come up with text, the menus glitch a bit sometimes, it won't remember my user, Second Life TOTALLY bugs out on even the login screen, and I think one or two other things.
It looks gorgeous and I love where Mint is going, but I never had these issues with 17 I don't think.
I'll probably have to reboot into Windows just to play Second Life and it was fine before.
So erm... yeah I'll try for a bit longer then probably reinstall 17.
Don't get me wrong though it looks great and the new features are very cool, it's just more buggy for me is all >.<
EDIT -- Hm, the backup simple splash screen doesn't work either >.<
This was a fresh install of Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64-bit on a pretty normal desktop.
EDIT AGAIN -- Well, I reinstalled Second Life and deleted its config file and set it up again and it didn't crash, but it did fail to play sound, which worked fine on 17 once I made a small tweak to its executable, which I also did on 17.1 with no change.
Man... what on Earth is going on
Anyone else finding 17.1 buggier than 17?

17.1 comes with a newer kernel and newer drivers for hardware. Might be something is a problem there. If you have Nvidia or AMD graphics card, worth a look in Driver Manager. That said, second life in the past has been very poorly supported on Linux. I wouldn't take that as an instrument to measure how stable your system is or isn't.

I know it's in beta, but I'm back on 17 now and Second Life and everything else works great >.<xenopeek wrote:17.1 comes with a newer kernel and newer drivers for hardware. I have seen very few problems on 17, just mild stuff really.
Strange how 17.1 gave me such a rough ride.
My system is a desktop with an Asus (slightly old) gaming motherboard, a Core 2 E8400, 4gb of RAM, sound blaster X-Fi, geforce gtx 550 ti and erm... that's most of it!
Weirdly though a fair few distros won't boot or work properly on here - manjaro, mint debian edition, ubuntu (sometimes worked but sometimes failed), debian... lol
However, 17 works like a charm and 17.1 did boot and install.
But yeah erm, overall I'm doing alright atm (mostly very good!) as long as I do stick to 17 o.O

Good to hear everything is working again. Keep in mind that Mint 17 is LTS until 2019. Upgrading to 17.1, 17.2, etc, is optional but probably not needed if everything keeps working well.
Just a quick aside: If you are willing to try it you can upgrade just the Cinnamon desktop to the newer version without touching the kernel that is now working for you. They are testing the latest version of the desktop that will show up in 17.2. I've tried it and so far have not found any bugs or glitches that affect my normal workflow. My favorite part of the new Cinnamon: The panel can be set to intelligently hide. Info is at segfault.linuxmint.com

HI hoppimike,
I read your post and the good replies. As other users have suggested, you could try upgrading to 17.1 Cinnamon through the update manager, perhaps making sure you have the best video drivers, etc...
I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 KDE and I find it better than 17 and not buggy at all. I am not familiar with Second Life web site. You could of course create live DVD's or USB drives of the other editions of Linux Mint (Mate, KDE, Xfce) and boot to them and try those. You might find one of those works even better for you.

Yeah I think live booting them to test them is a good idea.
I'll use 17 as my main Linux OS for quite some time I think, and just dabble in others for the enjoyment of it and the experience of trying different OSs.
I do hope that Mint 17.2 or 18 or something runs better on my PC than 17.1 did - I'd love to see the future releases a bit more stable and reliable in my experience like 17 is!
Other than that erm, my only real issue has been a lack of fleshing out of Cinnamon - for example I can't run things as admin with great ease (have to launch admin file manager instances or do it from the terminal) and there seems to be a lack of desklets, etc.
I do love the Cinnamon desktop overall though, and I'm sure this will improve with time
Sure is much better IMO than Unity and Gnome Shell!
