Mint 64-bit xfce crashing after suspend

Post by nhmarshall »

I've been using Mint for what seems like a few months now and I have to say that I like it more than any OS I've used, especially whenever it works without any flaws. But, what began as small and relatively minimal problems i.e. crashing every now and then whenever coming back from suspend and some issues with chrome and skype, to bigger issues like crashing almost every time I start up from suspend or lock-screen and having to reboot any time I wish to use skype or chrome. I only use chrome to watch netflix and skype is usually glitchy unless I reboot and then it works relatively well, but the constant crashing when starting up from suspend is pretty annoying. I'm hoping there is a simple solution because I really don't have the determination to spend hours troubleshooting and tweaking. I'm not ready to give up on mint yet.

I'm running Xfce 64 bit on a Toshiba e45 b100 laptop.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Does the problem happen with suspend-to-disk (hibernation) or with suspend-to-ram ("ordinary" suspend)?

Might be a driver issue. You might try the easy generic solutions:

a. Install the latest kernel from the 3.13 series:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... el-updates
(item 3, right column)

Then reboot.

b. When no improvement: install the latest kernel from the 3.16 series.

Then reboot.

c. When no improvement: install the latest kernel from the 3.19 series.

Then reboot.

d. When still no improvement: check for a newer BIOS / UEFI and when available, install it.
