so I'm having trouble accessing most admin functions such as software manager or users and groups.
every time I've tried to open one it asks me to input my password and I do but it never opens.
I am new to linux and would appreciate if someone could offer some advice or help thanks.

Re: Administrator access
as well as trying out 'software manager' - can you also try out 'package manager'
- to see if that is any different
when you installed the LinuxMint - did you write down the user password ?.

Re: Administrator access
Hello bluebutler and welcome to Linux Mint Forums,
First we need a little more information - Which version of Mint are you running , is it 17.1? and Which Desktop?
Then could you go to a terminal and try to launch the software manager from there with the Command
Then list any error messages you get here.
There has been some problems with mintinstall.
Have you updated the system since installing?
let's try that for a starter
