Critical error during ped_disk_new

Postby manu on Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:12 am

Hello!

I just tried to install Bianca KDE but when I selected "Manually edit partition table" the following error occurred by QTParted:
"critical error during ped_new_disk"

So far I tried
Code: Select all
badblocks -sv /dev/sda

but no bad blocks were found.

fdisk -l shows the following
Code: Select all

Disk /dev/sda: 118.5 GB, 118526284800 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14410 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sda1               1        1019     8185086   83  Linux
/dev/sda2            1020       14410   107563207+   5  Extended
/dev/sda3   *       11872       14410    20394486    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda5            1020        1528     4088479+  82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda6            1529       11871    83080116   83  Linux

When I start QTParted manually in a terminal, the following messages are shown before the GUI appears.

Code: Select all
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 166
  Major opcode:  144
  Minor opcode:  3
  Resource id:  0x0
Failed to open device
X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 166
  Major opcode:  144
  Minor opcode:  3
  Resource id:  0x0
Failed to open device

Any suggestions?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Can you ignore the error message and continue? or does it stop the install ?

Also the "X Error BadDevice" is nothing to worry about, it's there because of some touch-screen / stylus stuff in xorg that are configured but not present on your system.
