Use sudo ... e.g.
sudo editor-of-your-choice /etc/apt/sources.list

GNOME:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

KDE:
sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list

I have the same problem, I can not save the changes of 45-libgphoto2.rules
to connect my camera with USB
Open /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules in your favorite text editor
Replace
BUS!="usb*", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"
with
SUBSYSTEM!="usb_device", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end"

Save the file and your camera should work now!

BUT can not save it?? (just working for 1 week with linuxmint ..sorry)

where do I type the text you wrote? to logging as a root? so i can change the file? do I have to open a program to type this text so i can login as a root?
thank you

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

ernst,
you need to type this in the terminal (mintmenu --> accesories --> terminal):
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules

or if you use KDE:
Code: Select all
sudo kate /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules

Either one of these command will open "45-libgphoto2.rules" in text editor (gedit or kate) as root.
Then you can edit and save the changes.

A good rule of thumb is if you edit files outside your home folder you need to do it as root.

PS. I think you're posting this on the wrong forum ;)

Please please make at least a minimal effort to see where you are posting. This was originally posted in General Announcements at the end of a thread about the Medibuntu repository
This is no Announcement and has nothing to do with repositories!! :twisted:

now i know how to log in as a root

Never do that! (Unless in very special circumstances)
But I think you mean that you have learned the sudo command, which is not to log in as root, it makes you root for a limited time and for a specific application
