help me Don't work some apps

Postby shydy on Sat Jun 16, 2007 6:12 pm

Hallo!
I'm italian, newbie for linux and, after that I'd tried several distro, my favourite is Mint. But, after a problem at the boot time with wireless router (that I haven't configure also), the mint menu, mint config and update tool (in italian "gestore aggiornamenti") don't work.
Thanks for any suggestion and for mint, very nice.

Additional info to my problem: the message on desk is: Panel encountered a problem with loading «OAFIID:GNOME_mintMenu»
do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

This is the same with gdesklet and others.

thanks :)

hi shydy

Your installation is probably broken. Have you checked the md5 sum of the iso before burning? If not you should do it and compare the md5 sum with the one at the download page. If the sums don't match you'll have to download the iso file again.

But to be sure open up a terminal ( Alt+F2 "gnome-terminal" ) and enter or paste "/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintMenu/mintMenu_frontend.py run-in-window" and paste the output back here.

It's "No module named gtk"

Now, I remember that the problems are originate: or when during the boot is appeared the message: "23 time etc..(I don't remember exactly, but it seemed me that it regarded just md5 and bcm43xx)" and it started a process t seemed me of analysis; or after module bcm43xx (wireless broadcom) installation in kernel made from same me.

Before all it worked well

many thanks

Have you updated the kernel before this problem occurred?

if it did try booting from the old kernel.
the newer kernel broke a few things.

at boot when the grub menu appears choose the third option.

if you have 2 kernels it should look like this:

Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.20-16-generic
Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.20-16-generic (recovery mode)
Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic
Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic (recovery mode)
Linux Mint, memtest86+

so select "Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic" as this is the original kernel.

....at boot when the grub menu appears choose the third option....

I have made and kernel started is Linux Mint, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic, but nothing is changed.

During the boot it's appeared: "/dev/hda1 has been mounted 23 times without being checked, check forced, /dev/hda1" and after it started counter percentage.

Various things don't work: mintconfig, linux mint menu, principal gnome menu config, mint desktop, harware info, gdesklets, etc...

I think that the activation of bcm43xx (broadcom wireless) has caused the problems. I have added it at the blacklist, but nothing is changed.

Thanks for any suggestions :) .

hi shydy

I don't think that the neither bcm43xx nor the kernel update have caused the problem.

You are missing the python gtk package. You mentioned a analysis process: Maybe some parts of your file system were damaged and that way the gtk python package got removed.

Open up synaptic ( Alt+F2 synaptic ) and search for "python-gtk2" and mark it for reinstall.

I've tried and something is changed: the principal gnome panel 0.6.3 work and also the tool that work with him. But linux mint menu, gdesklets etc... don't work also after complete disinstall and reinstall.

If I tried a complete disinstall of "python-gtk2" and all the dependencies and reinstall, even from an other DM like xfce?

However the system is usable to 100%, is only that I want to resolve the problems.

well, there might still be some other dependencies that are missing.
Please run "/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintMenu/mintMenu_frontend.py run-in-window" in terminal again and paste the output

The output without sudo is :"No module named gtk".

The output with sudo is:
