Compiz Fusion on Mint

Postby KrazyPenguin on Fri Jun 22, 2007 6:48 pm

Somebody made a how-to for Compiz Fusion on Feisty
I wish they would have could it "Fusion 3D" :-)
It should work on Mint.
I will try it now and let you know how it goes.

Install was a success , but had some problems with borders and sluggishness.

Anyway, after today's upgrade (these compiz people working 24 hrs/7  )
it seems to be quicker, smoother, and "Ubuntu" now appears at the top of the cube.

Anybody else try this??

The reasons to upgrade to "Compiz Fusion" is because Beryl no longer exists.

You can keep using Beryl, but there will be no upgrades.

I am sure Clem will be including it in the next version of Mint.

Tip: I've been working with the hotkeys and Shift-Start-C clears the screen, so making Shift-Start-F for Fire seems pretty natural.

Guys,

Before I go Fusion, I'm not going to do a fresh install of Mint to go this route. I'd build Beryl from SVN, with an ATI card with an older PC, have Cassandra going, and posted numerous YouTube Beryl videos. That is running an ATI / new Notebook with an NVidia card.

Hey, I can bent and twist everything. What makes Fusion better than Beryl?

Let me know.

BTW, those videos are great, but I'd like to know how those vids where tagged to speed them up. LOL!

My YouTube Vids seem so slow. Again, LOL!

It works great!
For full screen games, there may be some trouble with Opacity.
In General Options > Opacity Settings tab, you may remove 'Unknown

Code: Select all
((type=Unknown | Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu | Tooltip | Notification | Combo | Dnd | name=sun-awt-X11-XWindowPeer) | (type=Normal & override_redirect=1)) & !(name=sun-awt-X11-XFramePeer | name=sun-awt-X11-XDialogPeer)

Funny, there was a News story today on CNN how the serevers in the US are so slow that we (I have always thought) have lost the tech advantage that we thought we had. I always shot for German servers when going for the newest SuSE versions.

The better work done with Hardware, Software, and Operating Systems has been better done ex-USA.

Now, can I change my present Beryl set-up to Fusion with out having to do a fresh install?

You might want to get rid of beryl all together because compiz fusion is replacing it and no more updates will be available for Beryl (or so i heard)
i find compiz fusion to actually be more stable already.

Hi Guys,

As far as I can tell Beryl on Mint is stable, but those new plug-ins make me want to upgrade. But, I'm not sure that I can pull it off, if you know what I mean.
