Cannot burn DVD

Postby wipeout on Mon Jul 30, 2007 4:18 pm

Hi there .

First of all I would like to say hello to everybody on this forum .
I am new to Linux Mint , I've been using Open SuSE until now and decided to give Mint a go .

I like Mint a lot and everything works just nice ... except burning a DVD.
I tried to burn something using K3B ( I like K3B ) . The burn process was succesful but when I inserted the disc to check if it's OK .... nothing happened.
It was as if the disk was unreadable .
I also tried Gnome Baker , Brasero and the Gnome burning utility . All discs completed the burn process but wasn't able to read from them .
Some discs were identified as being empty.
I haven't tried to write to a CD yet but will try that too when I have a bit more free time .
I used K3B in OpenSuSE under Gnome without issues .

Does anyone have a clue ?

Thanks in advance

edit : Burning CD works ok in K3b ..

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi

Have you got dma enabled on DVD-drive?

Also have you tried to burn at a lower speed?

What make and model is your DVD drive?

Also have you gone to K3b setup?

It almost sound like the discs aren't being finalized.

DMA is OK

I tried all speeds possible and same result

I have a Pioneer drive but it's not really important since it works well in Opensuse , PC Linux and Windows

I have checked K3B settings from the begining and they're OK

It almost sound like the discs aren't being finalized.

Well .... In K3B I always check to finalize the discs and not let them open ..

Hmmm ... I need to dig some more to see what I come up with ....

Thanks for the input guys

Well .. I got my hands on K3B 1.0.2 debs and installed them .

I was surprised to see that K3B succesfully burned the DVD and more than that I was able to read it afterwards .

I'm still puzzled why this whole issue happened because it looked to me more of a backend issue ( growisofs maybe ?) since other burning programs failed also .. even if I'm not sure if all of them use the same backend .

I will do more testing to see if I can pinpoint the culprit .

Thanks for the help .
