Linux Mint booting so slow / solved

the main limiting factor for mint is RAM (min 256MB) but you have plenty of that.
did you install mint via the SCSI CD-ROM or do you have another CD-ROM?
if you installed via the SCSI CD it will not be the problem. SCSI usually is not a problem, it is old or very new pc hardware.
if you edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file and remove the "quiet" from the first kernel line you will be able to see where the boot is being slow.
to edit open a terminal window and type:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
enter your password when asked.
edit, save, exit
now reboot and tell us where your boot seems to go slow.
there maybe some process (like networking) that cant start and takes 30sec to time out before the boot continues.
