I think you right click on the clock and adjust the time from there.
I always set the clock to use ntp.
ntp is not installed by default so when you go to set it it downloads it the first time.
BTW are you saying she installed mint on her computer?
can she sudo any commands from the terminal?
remember if you add another user to a system the default user type does not have sudo access. you have to set the user to be an admin type.

I've messed with Cassandra on live CD, and I don't recall having had a problem with setting the time. But now, with Daryna, my computer's putting up a fight. What's up with that? "You are not allowed." Same to you, pal!
