Welcome to Mint Ezri
More info please
Which video card do you have?
Which monitor?
Before you start Beryl make sure you have 3D enabled. If you don't your screen will go completely white (sometimes black)
Then in the menu > Beryl manager
Right click Beryl manager and select Beryl as window manager.

It may simply be that you can't have 3D under vmware
In Celena Beryl is installed by default.
But you have to start beryl manager and get the Beryl gem on the panel then right click the gem > Select window manager > Beryl
