Are you absolutely sure you burned a good CD copy of the ISO you downloaded? Did you burn the ISO at the slowest speed? Believe it or not, you can often get weird errors, minute corruptions if you burn the ISO at the fastest possible speed. Sometimes the download is incomplete by a few bytes or so. As a first easy step, I'd do a checksum on your ISO and reburn it. Then, boot the computer with your new disk and see if the Live environment plays more nicely with your hardware. If all looks good, then perhaps a wipe and reinstall is your best bet.
Failing a bad ISO, can you please post detailed information about your system hardware? Thanks.

Re: Daryna (livecd hd install} problems
You know, Ubuntu (and it's children) always did a poor job of creating a good default xorg.conf. Try mine instead. It's been tweaked to perfection. If you're using an ATI card instead of an nvidia card, then you'll need to switch a few things. Post back if that's the case and I'll tell you what to change (or, you might already know and be able to switch them on your own.) You'll also want to change the nvidia card model, monitor model or other items that refer to my hardware; to your own. You might also want to use your own desired resolutions if different from mine. Hack it to your hearts content. In any case, my file is loaded up with the mode lines needed to create the optimal refresh rate for a range of monitors and many performance tweaks. Note: feel free to use your own mouse, tablet or other sections from your own file if you prefer. Enjoy!
Oh, and I highly recommend you update Compiz-Fusion to the latest. It's faster, smoother and corrects some annoying bugs. I have another post that deals with how to do that. See here for my post with detailed instructions: http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi ... =90&t=8132

Re: Daryna (livecd hd install} problems
Try my xorg.conf posted above. Hey, if it doesn't solve the problem at least you tried. Be sure to back up your existing xorg.conf by issuing the following in a terminal BEFORE using mine.
Open terminal and type...
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf xorg.conf.bak-mm-dd-yy
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
copy and paste my file; replace the text in your file. Make changes where appropriate from your original file to my file to ensure hardware names, etc. match your hardware.
save the new xorg.conf
restart the computer.
If for some odd reason you can't get X to start, or, something else is wrong, you can revert to your original file (or edit the new one again) by doing the following.
login at the command line with your username and password.
sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you want to try editing the file.)
or
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak-mm-dd-yy xorg.conf
sudo reboot
Good luck!!
