Learning Linux

I am new to Linux and having trouble finding a graduated learning Plan.

Reasonable Windows experience but as user only. Our local library is SO out of date. Have looked at many web sites for help. Can anyone point me to a source. I don't expect to become an expert.

Another good online Linux tutorial is here: http://linux-newbie.dotsrc.org/ or if you prefer to have a book to hand for reference, try 'Linux in easy steps' by Mike Mcgrath available from Amazon or elsewhere. That was the book that got me started on my Linux career it's mainly KDE based but it will take you from basic console commands to writing a looping scripts.

The best advice is to be patient, and take Linux a bit at a time. After a short while, and probably sooner than you believe, you will begin to think about your computer in a 'Linux' way, and then, all the power and potential of Linux will be revealed, and you'll be hooked. Have fun!

One of the great things about Mint is it is based on Ubuntu Edgy. We have our unique tweaks like Mint Wifi, Mint Menu etc., but the how to guids are basically the same.

I suggest to read this book: Linux for Dummies. Or this one: UNIX for Dummies.

You can find it at e.g. Amazon's online shop. As someone who is training IT apprentices in our company (since 2002) I have had positive feedbacks from my apprentices so far. The book is written in a very funny way, so besides learning a lot you'll also have plenty to laugh about here and there. Keeps the motivation up :wink:
