Can I save elsewhere ?

Post by yamawho »

When I choose to download a file in firefox I have it setup so it asks where to save.
However, I seem to only be able to save to home or to a sub folder within home.

Is it possible to save to a USB drive or to another partition ?

How is this done ?

Hi

When Firefox asks you to save, click on the
"Browse for other folders" a drop down bar
will open giving you access to the files

If you want USB, choose media then open
(on my box)

You should be able to save anywhere you have write-access. I often choose to save files to my windows partition or my usb HDD. Do you get any kind of error when you select another partition or drive in the save dialog?

Actually it's not in firefox

It's when I'm downloading torrents using Deluge.
I choose browse but I can only select home or folders under home ...

home/user is your area to store data, the rest is reserved for the OS. I would suggest just getting used to it, and not mess around with saving stuff other places than in /home/user...
Also, in Firefox, you have to change some settings in order to select where to download it, Edit - Preferences, make sure you are under the "Main" tab, and check Always ask me where to save files.

I have been doing it that way in Firefox for years so thats OK.

The reason I ask for Deluge is I want to use Mint on my EeePC and when I save a file, I would like it to save directly to the sd card or the usb stick.

That should be possible, just mount the SD stick in your home directory if you are not allowed to use any other folders.. It has been a while since I used deluge though, but I seem to remember that I could open most directories...
