What are my options?

Postby Jeff. on Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:33 pm

Ok well to start off I have Lm12 on my P.O.S lenovo laptop.. My disk drive no longer functions and I completley wiped the hard drive clean when I installed Linux, So i do not have a backup on windows . How can i get windows back on my laptop? my only option seems to be usb which is how I got Lm on there in the first place. But For myself seems damn near impossible to put windows on a usb from linux. Any suggestions would be great, because my laptop was running great on linux but it now has become extremley unstable after update and I can no longer deal with. Im going to be gettinga desktop soon so that way i will be able continue linux on that. but for now I need to get back to windows for specific work reasons.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Download a windows iso, you can find offical iso's here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/official- ... tal-river/

Use brasero or Startup Disk Creator to burn the iso onto DVD/USB

That done make sure your laptop is set to boot from whatever medium you chose (CD-drive or USB) and you should be sorted

Yes, but Windows iso's might work better burned to a DVD (than on a partitioned USB), been a while since I did it and can't remember the details.

Well a Cd/Dvd is not an option since my lovely daughter decided to demolish my laptop

But I tried to use Startup disk creator and it will reckonize my usb drive but when i browse to the iso and select it simply does not go into the box..I was able to get it on there the very first time but that was before i put in the flash drive.. now it will not do it at all.. Ive tried several restarts and tried alternating gettings the iso before plugging in flashdrive but with no success.

Does anyone have an idea of what I could do.. I simply do not have another computer that I can do this on or I would
