Screen image fragmented

Postby anthony2010 on Sun Apr 08, 2012 5:47 pm

Hi all.

Bit of an odd one...

My screen image often looks like shattered glass i.e a radial effect and its sometimes quite difficult to see what I'm doing because this effect covers all or part of my screen.

Im running an old machine which is a Toshiba A120. It has loads of Ram so Im sure thats not it. I run mint gnome 32 bit.

Any ideas?

Ant.

Could be a graphics driver problem.

Please open a terminal (from the menu) and run:
Code: Select all
inxi -Gx

Then please paste the output here. It'll list your graphics card & driver data.

Hi Albert.

I very much appreciate your help.

Ihave elected for a fresh install and so far, so good. However that was the case once before. The problem sufaced after a while (One suspects an update.)

Here then (Just in case) is that output.

Graphics: Card: Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller bus-ID: 00:02.0
X.Org 1.10.4 drivers intel unloaded: fbdev,vesa Resolution 1280x800@60.0hz
GLX Renderer Mesa DRI Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2 GLX Version 1.4 Mesa 7.11 Direct Rendering Yes

If you see anything here that could be a problem later, I would really like to know. However like I said, so far so good. I shall retain my optimism for the fresh install.

Ant.

It's probably a broken screen - have you tried booting from a Mint CD? Or do you still have Windows installed on the computer?

You can check if the screen is broken by gently pressing it in various places. If you see the pattern then it is definitely cracked.
