"Flashback" virus

Postby fletcher on Thu Apr 12, 2012 9:44 am

I've seen a couple reports on this the past few days. Apparently is devastating the 'virus-proof' macs. Here's one of the reports: http://kdvr.com/2012/04/11/damaging-vir ... time-ever/

I assume most *nix users would be very careful about clicking on some pop-up claiming an update, but wondering if this virus could infect our machines if someone did? I know that I would never click on something claiming I need an update unless I know the source, like Firefox. But some of the newer users might be fooled. Although if they have made the switch to Linux, they are probably more careful than that. I rely on update manager for the most part.

But since MacOS is *nix based as well, would this virus be able to infect Linux?
The philosophy exam was a piece of cake -- which was a bit of a surprise, actually, because I was expecting some questions on a sheet of paper.

According this site 98% of infected system is Mac OS X, but i read the virus disguise as system update ( you need enter root password to activate virus).
In linux as long as you are not login as root, the only possible infected is HOME directory ( you didn't need root password to change or write file in Home directory ).
I am usually :
1. Update java and Flash player to the latest.
2. Install ClamTK ( ClamAV GUI ) and scan my home directory monthly.

Mac OS X apps can't infect a Linux system. You can't run OSX software here - the reverse (Linux software on OSX) is possible for some programs.
