New to Linux

Postby drewt333 on Sun Apr 06, 2014 2:33 pm

Not really a Linux User yet since I'm stuck with a frozen desk top and a blank "Welcome Screen "

The mouse seems to work but can't click on anything.

There may be a thread on this somewhere else but the search doesn't work through Tapatalk so I'll have to find out the old-fashioned way.

:?

UPDATE

Looks like a AMD/NVIDIA problem. I'm trying the solutions from the sticky.
Thanks in advance to everyone who contributed to the thread! :)

Thank you everyone for the greetings and advice.
After reading everything (nearly) I abandoned LM16 and tried LM13 Mate.
Ran into the slideshow problem and tried the fix.
(see: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=164152#p844012)
Install crashed, disgorging a half screen of error message starting "Can not handle kernel NULL" or something like that.

Briefly lost will to live.

Will try something else later in the week.

And so I remain,
