Linux Mint is Interesting

Postby android on Wed May 09, 2012 1:20 am

Whats up Linux Mint community! My name is Mark - 18 years old and have been a Windows user for 13+ years. Why did I suddenly switch? Long story short; I won't get too into detail, but I got pissed off with Windows issues. Linux Mint so far makes me happy everyday I use it and it is very intriguing to keep building knowledge using it. The hardest step for me to get used to is file permissions, terminal commands, application installing when not available on gui. So far, even after a weeks usage the OS is becoming real familiar for me and finishing tasks much quicker. I look forward to meeting some of you and learning from some of you :D .

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi Mark, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums! Enjoy building knowledge about using Linux

Be sure also to check out the Community website (ideas, tutorials, and hardware and software reviews), and the Cinnamon Spices website for adding themes, applets and extensions to Cinnamon (and check out the Cinnamon Extras package, which will install a lot of these for your automatically). If you haven't installed Cinnamon, see here the most recent update for a teaser.

You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.

Mark.

I believe you made a wise decision. I have nothing against MSWindows but Linux Mint has caught up.

I tried Linux back in the late 90s and yes it was ridiculously hard compared to user friendly Apple and Windows.

But times have changed.

Linux is faster, more powerful and free.

Yes, there is a learning curve, however, if Windows also has a learning curve and Linux is starting to pass it in efficiency.
