New to the forums, not so much to Linux

Postby SCrid2000 on Sun May 13, 2012 12:29 am

Hey all
I'm Shane, I'm a law student and a hardcore tech geek. Entirely self/google taught.
I'm also a BlackBerry fanatic, spend a lot of time on CrackBerry and co-founded a blog at OpenSourceBB.com. I also have a couple small BlackBerry apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook and for the upcoming BlackBerry 10 release.
Installed my first linux distro about 2 years ago, first tried Ubuntu, then Fedora (and tried a lot of others but never for more than a few days), then back to Ubuntu. Absolutely hated Unity but loved Ubuntu's modifications so I switched to Linux Mint 12, and so here I am.
Good to be here, hope to meet some cool folk.

Hi Shane, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums!

Be sure also to check out the Community website (ideas, tutorials, and hardware and software reviews), and the Cinnamon Spices website for adding themes, applets and extensions to Cinnamon (and check out the Cinnamon Extras package, which will install a lot of these for your automatically). If you haven't installed Cinnamon, see here the most recent update for a teaser.

You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.

Thanks for the welcome guys!
Currently running the RC - I miss MGSE, but I'm gonna try to tweak Cinnamon some and see what I can do with it.
