WOW - New Mint Maya Cinnamon User !!

Hey

You must be getting bored of these comments but I tell you I had to say something. I cannot believe how far Linux has some in the last 3 or 4 years. Iv installed a good number of Distros in the past and basically just deleted them after a short while. Im a native Mac (was Windoze many many years ago) user BTW. About 3 months ago I installed Ubuntu and although I was impressed I didn't really like Unity. Iv just installed Maya Cinnamon and Im blown away.

Not sure who the people behind this Distro are but a JOB WELL DONE ! I can see Im going to use this daily. So far I LOVE IT and its inspiring me to learn Linux more thoroughly. I was a proficient DOS user many many moons ago so I'm not afraid of the console, I just forgot how to use it after all the GUI's came out. :?

Anyway I'll stop waffling.

Great Work Gents !!!!

There's a lot of these types of comments around since Mint 13 came out. It's not surprising. I'm pretty much the same. I installed a lot of distros over the past year and never found one I really loved. Messed about with Gnome Shell and Unity, both OK and had their plus points, but didn't blow me away. I'd never tried Mint before because I always thought it was just Ubuntu with a few codecs and a different theme, but gave Mint 13 Cinnamon a go, not expecting too much.

Like you - WOW!

I feel like I finally found a home. Whatever they are doing with Cinnamon, it's the right thing. It's pretty and has nice SFX. It's extensible and tweakable. It's friendly and fun. But crucially, it builds on the familiar in the right way, and doesn't try to revolutionise the desktop. It's just right. No more distro hopping for me. This is a keeper.

Nice to know I'm not alone in this. ;)

Welcome to the Mint family forums

OT,have just come back from daughters ,a devout windoz user, spent most of the time trying to get her quad core lappy running , managed to get it working but bloody slow, she thanked me and said they were getting rid of both computers and splashing out on a mac, after telling her that i have been running Linux [didnt say which] for getting on for 2 yrs and only had a hardware breakdown, she has now asked her old duffer of a dad to install Linux, just for starters i will install mint 10 -64 in a duel boot[ as i personally haven't got to grips with Maya yet] and when she is happy run a clean install of which ever she wishes

[sub point my granddaughter is Myah nearly the same]

sorry for the waffle
