LinuxMint Maya Cinnamon finally installed on Dell Vista !

Postby DaComboMan on Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:36 pm

After a very long trial period of trying to get LM13 Cinnamon installed (dual-boot) on Windows7 Home (without success for reasons you may know, namely because of .32bit),
i finally got it to run on an old Dell with Vista on it! Yay! :D

But, instead of dual-booting i installed the whole disk with LM13.
I did it with the help of LinuxLive USB Creator available at:
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
Did have to F12 in order to have it run from USB device (not enough RAMs to have it go within Vista).
LinuxLiveUSB did have to modify the installation a bit, but it is operative!
So, from the looks of it, i now have a new computer that outperforms Vista 100 miles/hour! Yay!!! :D

Thank you Clem !
And thank you LinuxLiveUSB !

For some reason Opera Next (12 - 1450) works better (faster and less quirks) than Firefox and Thunderbird.
From past experiences this is something new (i always like Opera but couldn't figure out why it was generally slower than the above mentioned).

Dat's a good one Vincent! Thanks!

Don't know how LinuxLiveUSB succeeded in making it compatible with .32bit but i'm happy!
Will need a few more rams if i want to keep using Firefox + Thunderbird though.
Even after downloading the zillion emails from GMail account, TB is very demanding for 1G of memory.

Small correction.

Although Opera may be less intensive on system resources than Firefox (+ Thunderbird),
i still prefer Firefox.

After a quick checkup, i found out that one of the 500k memory sticks was loose (sheesh!).
So, now i have a brand new LinuxMint Maya with an great browser and email client again (at a extraordinary bargain price)!

(still like Opera too!)
