Hello Everyone

Hello all,

My name is Mickey. I am a software engineer by trade and have been using Linux off and on since 2004.

I have migrated from the world of Apple and part time Linux to full time Linux. I have chosen Linux Mint to be my Linux flavor of choice and am really enjoying it. The Cinnamon desktop is the perfect balance in my opinion.
This was a calculated choice as IMHO, Linux Mint is the best choice for the Linux User.

I have been participating in open source for the last few years or so. So the moves just makes sense to me.
So I built a custom PC power house with all the latest and greatest hardware Ivy Bridge CPU, SSD's, Sata 3, etc...) and installed Mint. I pulled some stuff down from the Main stream to support the Ivy Bridge CPU I purchased along with the motherboard.

Linux Mint coupled with my hardware is very fast. it boots in less than 5 seconds <== NO joke!!!! I about fell out of my chair when I saw it boot for the first time.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi Mickey, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums! Congratulations on a successful migration :D A good SSD is what makes it boot fast, and even with my SATA 2 Intel SSD I boot in between 6 and 7 seconds (measured from the boot log). Though the BIOS adds a lot more to that on a cold boot. Anyway, you may be interested in SSD optimization tips: viewtopic.php?f=90&t=79503#p461796

Be sure also to check out the Community website (tutorials, hardware and software reviews, ideas), and the Cinnamon Spices website for adding even more themes, applets and extensions to Cinnamon.

You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.

Have fun with Linux Mint
