Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Slow down there ... all software has updates, and all operating systems must have security updates!

Welcome to the Mint community.

I realise this but with linux you dont fill up half the hard drive with security updates, did updates for windows after a reinstall of vista on a 40 gig hd ended up with only 9 gig left.
on linux 29gig left.

Hi callis1, welcome to the Linux Mint forums :D Thanks for joining the forums! As for your question about ideas for distros to run on your PowerPC, DistroWatch to the rescue! Here is their list, with summary, of the distros supporting PowerPC: http://distrowatch.com/search.php?architecture=powerpc. I'd probably go with Debian (http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/), but Yellow Dog Linux (http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/) also looks nice.

Be sure also to check out the Community website (tutorials, hardware and software reviews, ideas). You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application Quassel IRC. After a short set up, you will get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.

Have fun with Linux Mint.
