My name is Joseph. I'm a long time Linux dabbler and after recently discovering Mint...I can pretty much say this is what I've always thought a Desktop system should look/feel/behave like. I have Mint 13 Mate installed right now and it is just groovy. With minimal tinkering, I've been able to set it up just the way I like. I work for a web management company doing their geekier work. HTML and CSS are good and all, but I'm having to say no to too many jobs so I'm learning Javascript and PHP now -- I figured it was high time. Hopefully Mint will give me a good environment for writing and testing web scripts. ok, ciao.

Hi Joseph, welcome to the Linux Mint forums Thanks for joining the forums! MATE is indeed groovy, I'm running it as my main desktop as well I'm not much into web development these days, but Linux Mint should offer you everything you need. From nice editors, like Bluefish and Geany, to running web servers and such on your desktop for experimenting. If you need any assistance, have a search first as there are a lot of users dabbling with web development on these forums. The "Software & Applications" forum is a good place to look, or to post questions about getting programs to work if you have any issues.

Be sure also to check out the Community website (ideas, tutorials, and hardware and software reviews). You can also chat in real-time with other Linux Mint users. In the Mint Menu, in the Internet section, start the application XChat IRC. You will automatically get connected to #linuxmint-chat for general chat and #linuxmint-help for support with other Linux Mint users.

@caerolle: Afraid I have no psychic giftings (given by delusion or otherwise) My community tag is "GoatsInDark" (this screen name I guess is based on a childhood memory,) so the forum name GoatZz is just something a bit different. If I could make a goat topple by staring at it long enough, I'd give up this freakshow of geekness and join the circus
