Hello all. I'm a retired engineer living in the Dallas, Texas area. After years of kicking around the idea of using Linux but not doing anything about it, I've finally decided to make the move from Windoze XP (thank you Windoze 8 ). I've played with a Ubuntu live disk a little bit, but didn't much like the Unity desktop, so I'm looking at Linux Mint, trying to decide which desktop environment to use - I'll be experimenting with live disks with MATE, Cinnamon, KDE, and Xfce before installing.
Oh, my user name "slipstick" is from the old term for a slide rule which I used in my early days as an engineer and now collect (have over 100 at present).
