2nd try :p

Hello Linux fellows,

I've tried Linux 2 years ago with the Ubuntu distro and after a week i gave up.. mainly because i played games (not anymore) and in Ubuntu you had to write terminals and for me that was too much.. i see that in Mint writing terminals is not needed anymore? Just installed Chrome without any terminal command :) But anyway i'll try it again and the first impression is quite good, nice GUI and my network (cable) worked instantly, even on the live cd :D

The actual reason for me to use Mint is because i was fed up with XP, it had viruses and i had used it for something like 5 years.

Greetings from the netherlands!

Hoi Tryton, welkom op het Linux Mint forum :D But what happened in the past two years, that you no longer play games?

When you run into problems and ask for help on the forums, we might ask you still to run some commands in the terminal. Not because there is no GUI way to do that, but because it is easier to get the information we need to help you that way. Because you get text output and can just copy that to the forums, and we can use the text also (a picture of words is cumbersome for those trying to help you). And because the various desktop environments implement things in different ways, while the command line is the same across all editions. But generally you should not need it for anything else.

Welcome to the community. I am sorry to inform you though that you might need to use the terminal once on a great while. This is true with any Linux distribution, and arguably even Windows and OSX. It will not be neededon a daily, weekly, or hopefully even monthly basis though unless you choose to use it. When you do need it though, there are plenty of people here that will be willing to help.
Again welcome to the community.

Hi - Welcome to the Mint family. Now that you have had a 2 year hiatus and Win XP official support is getting closed soon you should jump deep into Mint. :)
Yes, Terminal is only a speedway and comes in handy when everything else fails. It puts you in driver seat and allows you to take control over the rig. :)
