Hi from Ireland!

Post by emmet.curran »

Hi everyone, my first post!

Thought I would pop by and say hi. I've been using Mint for the past 6 months and really like it. Came back to Linux after an 18-month hiatus. I used to use Mandriva and was pretty engaged with the community (not on the development side). I stopped using Linux for some reason after I had to do a system reinstall and found that Win7 was actually not that bad, and having just got back into gaming found myself using Windows more often than not. Then when Valve announced Steam for Linux I decided to return. I wanted to try a .deb distro and settled on Mint - glad I did! Enjoying it very much so far!

I use it both at home and at work and I have some problems/questions I need help with, so I decided to check out the forums. Firstly, of course, I need to say hi to the community! I'll have a search of the forums to see if there are any solutions to the problem and if not I'll see you in the main forums!

Welcome!!!! Yeap, I am a gamer too and I am going the Steam way myself. The problems you have won't be too difficult for you to solve as you've used Linux distros before. I am back to using Linux myself. It's been years since I have used it....Last distro I properly used was Kanotix(Knoppix based distro on a AMD Duron back in 2005/2006).

I am running Mint 16 live at the moment. I gotta do a lot of reading here on the forums before I install so I know how to install 3D drivers etc. I also have to look at the progress of WINE for certain gaming emulators I use such as MAME etc.
