Hi,
names Bob and I used Mint before on a laptop some time back. I decided to do something about support ending on XP on the desktop and loaded Mint 16 on a spare disk. I'm staggered how good it is now and intend to stick with it. XP is still on the other disk but just changing the boot parameters if I want to use it for old games or printing photos; it won't be connected to the network but available to Linux for all my old photos documents etc. It has only taken a day for a fully featured upto date system and the only problem I've found so far is on a Canon usb photo printer not using the bottom tray - I can live with that and use XP to print photos until I find a fix.
This has saved me a fortune in new hardware and Windows OS and still retaining access to all my old stuff. A supurb job by the Mint team.
