Lovin mint, new user from Utah

Postby iamkirbatron on Fri Feb 28, 2014 4:47 am

Greetings from Utah- Wanted to drop a line to everyone and introduce myself. My name is Kirby! I haven't ever been active on a forum before, mainly because I haven't felt experienced enough to actually contribute, though I'm sure I have hundreds of hours of lurking under my belt in attempts to troubleshoot and understand. I jumped ship from Ubuntu after unity, best decision I've ever made. I am a hardcore apple user, with the bug of attempting to stick linux onto anything and everything I possibly can. I am a sophomore studying electrical engineering, and have a smidge of coding experience. First thing, my very first post - viewtopic.php?f=46&t=160895 - is requesting help with correctly configuring graphics drivers on a MacBook Pro, if anyone reading this can help, it would be much appreciated. Second, I'd like to know how the more experienced users got to where they are. Any books, resources, or other materials you studied? Did you go to school for it? How long have you been a linux user, and how long before you really knew the nitty gritty? Any advice for me on my quest for knowledge?

Thanks for everything in advance, I look forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome to the Mint familly.....
I am an student of electrial engineering too, but i am in my last year. i started using linux mint from my first year of university and got attracted to it, because i liked the simplicity and security. and the main thing that made me to convert to linux is that, i was fed up with the virus attacking on winodws pc.

Remember, all OS-Distro, Apps, DE/WM are Open-Source and have a Help-Forum

I am a Registered Architect (AIA) - retired -- that only uses Linux/GNU Open Source for about 8 years.
My nephew is an Architect, as well, he uses Apple/Mac all way. :D No harm done.

I have a master's degree in language and literature and I have never studied real IT (just word processing and stuff in my first year at college and I have benni using Linux as my main and only OS for 3 years. I have started with Ubuntu before I ditched it when Linux Mint Katya was out (my first love  ) and I think that Linux Mint is the easiest OS-Distro. No problems. everything just works and now i started writing basic tutorials and do artwork for Linux Mint :D See my friend it is easy-peasy and lots of fun
