Hi Everyone

Post by bimme »

Hi, I've been using computers since the 80's. I'm new to linux and have been trying out all kinds of flavors for the last 2 weeks but I'm having some serious problems no matter what computer I'm trying to use. I got really excited after installing the live USB into my toshiba laptop and running that for a day or 2. It was fast and efficient, ran every thing I could run that way. Then I installed the Cinnemon then Kde then Xfce. All three when actually installed don't run right. The OS runs sluggish, processors running at 100%. most of the time. I'm ready to throw in the towel and go back to windows. I couldn't even post this running Linux on a full install. The processes can't keep up.

Hi and welcome.

You should probably repost this as a new topic with "cant install Mint" in the title.

This sounds like install issues since you are pleased with the OS running live.
Are you saying that you have installed the each different flavours one at a time on a fresh partition
overwriting previous installs? More details will be needed.

Everyone will need to know more about your system:
In a terminal run

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
and they will want that result posted back.

You may also be asked to run GParted to learn how your hard drive is currently arranged.
Good Luck your way.
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

Welcome to the mint family forums

wizard

Tosh are not the easiest to configure in any Linux, a little effort is needed but many have Mint running smoothly on these machines.
