I think i made a big mistake

Post by Norman MYO »

Hi Everyone,
Sorry about the subject. I tried to load Linux mint on my old XP desktop. I could not get it to run and so decided to test load it on my windows 7 laptop. Being a very old wrinkly I ticked the box to delete the old OS and now I have a laptop running Linux mint and have lost my Windows OS because I bought the laptop second hand I have not got a disc. So I am going to stick with a linux mint laptop. I will have loads of questions in the very near future. I use Sibelius as I am a musician. That program is not supported on Linux. Oh dear one should really read the information first Sorry.

That's an abrupt switch to Linux Mint. But as you're here now, welcome to Linux Mint! Be sure to post questions so we can help you land on your feet.

Perhaps as first, it will be useful to read my introduction on how to install new software on Linux Mint: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=97158

Here are some suggestions from other users as to Linux alternatives for Sibelius: http://alternativeto.net/software/sibel ... form=linux. I don't know the program, so take a few minutes to read up on the suggested alternatives and see if there is one that would meet your needs.

Welcome to the Mint family forums,

your old xp laptop should run Mint but with either the Mate or better still XFCE desktops, [cinnamon is resource hungry]

Hi, there!

There is a great music notation package called Lilypond.
It is available for download in the software manager.
Just click on 'Administration > Software Manager' in the main menu and type lilypond in the search area.

Here is a link to the site of the package authors: http://lilypond.org/

Roger

Hello, again!

If you want a GUI for LilyPad, try Frscobaldi.
It is also available in the software centre.

Her is a link to the site: http://www.frescobaldi.org/

Roger
