Hi all :)

Hi.

Thought I would give Linux a go. Haven't gotten around to install it yet, but I'm working on it. After reading some postes on the forum, I think getting another PC to test & play with Linux on sounds like a good idea.
So far, all I have done is to pick Linux Mint as the distro I'm gonna start with. Got to aquire the other PC first, and while I wait, I thought I could spend some time browsing the forums for tips and tricks.

I am not realy that good with computers, allthough I spend a fair amount of time on them. More or less only used Window so far, not realy into Macs.
One thing I am afraid of, is that if/when I get Mint installed, I'll just go on and use the computer for all the daily/normal stuff, like reading news online, checking e-mail, and not get to learn to know the OS. I also play some PC-games, so I don't see myself discarding Windows completly anytime soon. But few, if any, knows the future

May also be worth mentioning, english is not my mothertoung, so please pardon any grievous spellingerrors I would make :)

Welcome to Linux Mint, and the Mint forum. Don't worry everybody starts some where. Just using Mint, will be a good start, then you can expand how ever much or little you choose.

You don't really need a separate computer to try out Mint. You can install an extra hard drive, or use a USB hard drive or flash drive. You can also install Mint to the same drive along side Windows.

*** From a technical point of view it’s no longer tied to the Ubuntu schedule, so it could be released at any time, there’s no technical relevance between 14.10 and 17.1. Now, with that said, the 6 months cycle gave us rhythm and although quality and content dictate releases going public or being held back more so than dates or vague deadlines, the idea of a late November release is still there within the team and it helps us working towards that target.
