All tried out and used with and without BATCH-Files .... Remember old times?
Well a lot of blue-screens with proprietary software paid for and never the owner of same took responsability for serious work-crashes...
Linux was born with Mandriva and Ubuntu !
Suddenly I took the train...started to download and try out almost each new Linux Distro and today the date Distrowatch is very right MINT is number one and on top of that i am a very big friend of original work : LINUX MINT DEBIAN ROLLING
MATE or CINNAMON desktops convincing 100% . Now also making my BASH files (commands) . Remote with ssh-X org , VirtualBox incl Android 4.4.r2....
Of course I tried out MINT 11 , 13 ,,, but I do not see the need to "navigate" on Ubuntu ...
This last one started Unity Desktop and that was like a menu for a balance to buy bananas or potatoes .....
The LTS versions of Ubuntu are ok if you install cinnamon of gnome but...... there is....... MINT LMDE ROLLING
I am not a simple user . I am trying out all office tasks . Multimedia . TV Internet . Photo and Video , Networking SSH and "Swish" combined with Windows...

Re: Introducing myself
Welcome Joost, to Linux Mint. At 66 I'm not far behind you, and also started out back in the DOS days. LMDE is indeed a nice version of Mint. As far as rolling, those days are pretty much over. Beginning with the soon to be released LMDE2 Betsy, it will be based on Debian Jessie (Stable). The good thing about the stable releases is being able to upgrade to the next stable when it comes around without having to do a new install.
Mint Cinnamon 20.1

dBaseIII+ made me cry back in 1993.
I couldn't grasp the content concept of a variable.
Those days are gone, thank God.

From a technical point of view it’s no longer tied to the Ubuntu schedule, so it could be released at any time, there’s no technical relevance between 14.10 and 17.1. Now, with that said, the 6 months cycle gave us rhythm and although quality and content dictate releases going public or being held back more so than dates or vague deadlines, the idea of a late November release is still there within the team and it helps us working towards that target.

I am, also, 67 years young.
